Why the present day Sikhs are lacking behind

I received this mail few days back and i thought of sharing it out to everyone......

Why the present day Sikhs are lacking behind.

The fundamental reasons behind the lacking of most of the Sikhs are:

-Many people have too much ego, which Sikhism does not allow.

-Many people follow caste system, which Sikhism does not allow.

-Many ladies go for Fast, which Sikhism does not allow.

-Many people drink and take drugs, which Sikhism does not allow. Even tea or coffee and most of the cold drinks come in the category of mild intoxicants. Hence, Sikhism does not allow these also. This is the reason that most of the children will drink tea but not milk.

-We just do rituals regarding religion, which Gurbani does not allow.

-We read as a ritual but do not understand Gurbani and also do not apply it in our own life.

-We treat Guru Granth Sahib as a ritual Guru and not really as Jagat Jyot. In fact we are more followers of Saints and Deras and not of Guru Granth Sahib.

-We think our selves great by modifying and changing Gurbani. Guru Har Rai Sahib did not forgive his son. How the Guru will forgive us?

-Very rarely TRUE Gurbani is being recited in most of the programs.

-We waste too much money on marriages and parties.

-Many people believe in show business.

-Many people give money to the beggars but not to the needy.

-We rarely select good quality leaders in Gurdwaras or Politics.

-We appoint low quality and uneducated Granthis. The committee members want to rule over them. In many places the Granthis are ill-treated.

-We feel proud by talking in languages other than Punjabi.

-We teach other languages to our children but not Gurmukhi.

-We rerely study and analyse Sikh History.

If we ourselves go away from the GURU then how he can save us?

The best way to be happy and prosperous in life is to follow Guru Granth Sahib.

In Guru Granth Sahib Ji, there are a few lines about fasting...below are only two lines from Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

firstly..

BARAT NAYM SANJAM MEH RAHTAA TIN KAA AADH NA PAA-I-AA
Meaning: Fasting, daily rituals, and austere self-discipline - those who keep the practise of there, are rewarded with less than a penny.

AAGAI CHALAN A-OR HAI BHAA-EE OONHAA KAAM NA AA-I-AA ||1||
Meaning : Hereafter, the way is different, O Siblings. there, these things are of no use at all. ||1||

Secondly...

ANN NA KHAAHI DAYHEE DUKH DEEJAI
Meaning: He does not eat food; he tortures his body.

BIN GUR GI-AAN TARIPAT NAHEE THEEJAI
Meaning: Without the Guru's wisdom, he is not satisfied.

MANMUKH JANMAI JANAM MAREEJAI. ||6||
Meaning: The ego-oriented is born only to die, and be born again.

With all due respect, Sikhism also donot allow the Dhan Dhan sri Guru Granth Sahib jee Maharaaj be carried on "lap", as it is being done by hundreds including your samelan...

I just wanted to noe veerji, why cant we carry Guru Maharaj on our laps??
Then in the cars, when we bring Guru Maharaj from one place to another place, then how???

In olden times, the traditional way to bring Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib jee Maharaaj was to on the head of one of the five Singhs with one Singh doing Chaur Seva and one singh sprinkling water in the front. All the Five singhs would walk bare feet. I know this is not a feasible practice in today’s time when Guru Sahib has to be brought from far off places, but carrying Guru Sahib on lap (that too by Amritdhari Singh) is not the way to do it either. Think of it as Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Nanak Dev Sahib jee Maharaaj and then analyze if it is OK to carry on Guru Sahib on lap. It is like putting Guru Granth Sahib jee Maharaaj on a shelf in a closet in the house. Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib jee Maharaaj is our KING and demands the royalty that a KING should have.

I can’t say about others but in the Samelan you guys spend so much of money on other things then you can also surely make shift a Van (by removing all the seats except the drivers) or a flat bed truck into Guru Sahibs carriage and place a Manjee with Guru Sahib on it and a Singh sitting in attendance of Guru Sahib and other 4 Singhs sitting behind him. One of the Gurdwaras in Vancouver has a special van like the one mentioned for the Guru Sahib’s travel. If anyone has any suggestions on this, please correct/add on to what is said about Guru Sahib travel. I hope one day we Sikhs learn how to really treat a KING.

Gurfateh Ji.

Sifar veerji/phenji,
Wht ur saying about givin Maharaj's Saroop utmost respect is true..However, it lacks logic n facts as there is NO such thing as Maharaj cant be carried on laps. I knw its a matter of personal Sharda, but tht duzn make it WRONG to carry Maharaj on laps..I mean, its GOOD to do as much satkaar as possible, but tht duzn make it wrong 4 us to carry Satguru's Sarrrop on laps..as 4 SNSM spending so much on other items, ur suggestion on tht van is gud but ive been to samelans n ive seen them doin alot of satkaar. Do u knw when Maharaj is brought with the band, it REALLy feels like The King of Kings coming in. Singho, i appreciate ur comments, however i beg to differ tht its wrong to carry Maharaj on laps .,..its gud tht ur thinking its as tho Satguru Nanak Dev Ji is sitting thr n its not appropriate...However we cnt say Satguru wont be pleased juz because Hez sitting on His Sewak's lap?? Yes, we shud treat Him like a King n beyond tht,but dun 4get, Maharaj Jee wants our utmost love n sharda..its the Love tht matters AS WELL. Guru Nanak Dev Ji brought back gareebi(humility) from Dargah n during His Life span, u surely knw the story of Satguru JUee eating at bhai lalo's hse n not at the other wealthy man's hse.. Therefore, Guruji showed us , tht BEING A KING OF KINGS HIMSELF, he did not demand a royal treatment but emphasised on LOVE. However i hope tht duzn mean we become lax in serving Satguru with the BEST. Juz wanted to clear tht its NOT n NEVER wrong to put Sarrrop on laps..Jivey Satguraan De Man Nu Paoda Hoveh !

Bhul Chuk Maafi..
Had more stuff to say but if ur not clear, then feel free to ask.

N yea, 4got to add, WORRY about love n not certain protocols.. if protocols were MORE important, Guruji cud have filled SGGS with em.:) But its gud u have the sharda. May Satguru bless u always and do as much satkaar as u can while being practical as well.

Actually, It is my mistake that I used the word "demand". I should have used deserve, but deserve didnot seem appropriate to be used for such high personality (The Guru Sahib). And you all are right. Dhan Dhan Guru Nanak Dev Sahib jee Maharaaj taught us to be humble, but still we should not forget the respect due to our GURU. It is the greatness of out Guru Sahib that he never asked for any recognition. I am not saying that the Samelan did not respect the Guru Maharaaj, but spending so much on samelan logistics, it would not have hurt to add a special carriage for Guru Sahib where a Palki could have been accomodated. This would also have the passers by easily identify where the KING of the SINGHS is. Guru Sahib on the lap may go un noticed, but not on a special carriage.
